Dóirín Saurus, presenting the Tipperariana Book of the Year’ award for 2022, to author Gerard Shannon, for his book ‘Alderman Joseph MacDonagh TD, – Tipperary’s Forgotten Revolutionary Politician? (1883-1922)’. L to R: Michael Mallon (chairperson Fethard Historical Society); Dóirín Saurus, who designed the award piece; winning author Gerard Shannon; Mary Hanrahan (public relations officer Fethard Historical Society); and Terry Cunningham (vice-chairperson Fethard Historical Society).
After a year of being involved in so much promotion of my Liam Lynch biography, it was rather surreal attending an event based around Joseph MacDonagh and my book on him published by the Tipperary in the Decade of Revolution group. The award was a beautiful pottery candlestick created local ceramicist, Dóirín Saurus. I’ll treasure this always, so nice to have an item with Joe on it in my home.
Photographed at the lecture on Joseph MacDonagh, by Gerard Shannon, hosted by Fethard Historical Society on November 4, 2023, are L to R: Seán Hogan, editor of the Tipperary in the Decade of Revolution series of books; Michael Mallon, chairperson Fethard Historical Society; and Gerard Shannon, author of ‘Alderman Joseph MacDonagh TD, – Tipperary’s Forgotten Revolutionary Politician? (1883-1922).
