Talk: ‘A Fight to The Finish’ |The 1920 Hunger Strike of Michael Fitzgerald | Áras Uí Chonghaile

Created: October 26, 2021

An online talk I gave for Áras Uí Chonghaile in October 2021 about Michael Fitzgerald, Cork IRA leader.

Michael Fitzgerald, the Cork IRA leader, who was the first republican to die on hunger striker during the Tan War in October 1920. His death was eclipsed by that of Terence MacSwiney not long after.

At the end of the Irish Civil War, Liam Lynch, the IRA Chief-of-Staff, made a final request to be buried with his late comrade. Both are buried together in Kilkrumper Cemetery in Fermoy, Co. Cork.
